Küberit® profiles in Soho Tower NY

Floor-to-ceiling windows and high-quality parquet flooring needed special profiles.

The task was to develop floor profiles with an expansion joint that only had to be attached to the floor covering and still reliably fulfilled their function. The approximately 300 rounded corner windows were a particular challenge. In addition, a visually appealing solution had to be found for the transitions between the adjacent profiles.

Expansion joint made of neoprene applied by hand

According to the architect's specifications, the Küberit® development team created construction drawings for the production of mock-up samples. For this purpose, the development team modified the Küberit® angle profile 237 and adapted it to the radius of the rounded windows with millimetre precision. For the expansion joints, Küberit® chose neoprene to meet the technical requirements for the building. The neoprene joints attach to the window frames so that they are pressed against the frame when the parquet is thresholded and did not have to be glued or screwed for a secure fit. Now it was still necessary to find a visually appealing solution for the transitions at the joints and mitre cuts of the profiles. For this purpose, Küberit® milled special inner and outer corners as well as connectors made of aluminium, which correspond to the look and technology of the modified angle profiles. In order to be able to cleanly and quickly apply the neoprene expansion joints to the straight and round profiles, the Küberit® team built a small device; however, the fitting of the corner and connector parts with the expansion joints had to be done by hand. The accurate planning paid off, all profiles of this custom-made product fitted exactly to the millimetre.
